I define a “B” movie as one that generally has a running time of between fifty to eighty minutes, and a B movie series as a group of films featuring the same character. Most of these films played on the bottom half of a double-bill, or two were lumped together for an afternoon at the movies. All of the classic Chan and Holmes movies — the very best of the mystery movie series — have been reviewed on this blog and you can find them by using the search bar on the top left corner. Moto; and the Whistler, not to mention Dr.
Philo Vance started out as a top-drawer series starring William Powell, but degenerated into a cheaper series for PRC. The Whistler movies all starred Richard Dix in a variety of roles and were based on the old radio program. Boston Blackie and the Lone Wolf starred, respectively, Chester Morris and Warren William, but later entries, not really a part of the main series, starred other actors. Mabuse began life in a series of films by Fritz Lang, dating back to the silent period, but these, too, degenerated into ersatz spy movies by the sixties.

Audio Subtitles David Hard Candy Slade directs this nerve-jangling adaptation of the popular graphic novel series about a mob of vampires that overruns a remote Alaskan town in the grip of 30 Days of Night. Josh Hartnett and Melissa George are the film’s de facto heroes he’s the stoic town sheriff and she’s his estranged fire-marshal wife but the picture’s real MVP is Slade’s camera along with cinematographer Jo Willems , which careens across the town’s snowy landscape to detail the vampires’ horrific assault on its inhabitants, which are quickly pared down to a hardy few.
And if the characters seem stock and the finale begs suspension of disbelief, the set pieces leading up to it are sufficiently supercharged with suspense and violence to please most horror fans. Standouts in the supporting cast are Ben Foster as the film’s Renfield figure and Mark Boone Junior; the disturbing score by Brian Reitzell also merits a mention. Moved a little slowly at times, and the end was a touch on the cheesy side, but overall worth watching.

I’m not sure how to describe it other than to call it a drama that’s somehow been cast with SNL-issue caricatures in all of the lead roles. Stanton, a well-meaning but not-brilliant man, becomes overwhelmed by the sheer volume of things in the world he doesn’t know and vanishes from public life, locked in the White House surrounded by growing stacks of books and newspapers.

Named Martin Tweed, he puppeteers the winners and losers to keep the most ratings-friendly contestants in the running.
